What School Didn’t Teach Us About Money

By Yiga Moses; Glow With Yiga

“School prepared me to pass exams. Life forced me to learn how to survive.”

Let’s speak the truth, we were taught how to solve math problems, memorize history, and pass exams… but nobody taught us how to make money, manage money, or multiply money.

And that’s why many bright students are struggling today. You can graduate with a degree and still be broke if you don’t understand the reality of money.

πŸ“˜ What They Should Have Taught Us

1. How to Earn Outside a Job

School taught us to look for jobs. But jobs are few. What we needed was training in business skills, online skills, and smart hustles. Most of us had to learn that after school through suffering.

2. How to Budget and Save

We learned how to draw budgets in theory. But no one taught us how to handle real money. How to budget 10k. How to save 5k a day. How to avoid spending all because of pressure.

3. That Debt is a Trap

School didn’t warn us about bad debt, the kind where you borrow for luxury, parties, or show-off. Many youth get stuck in loans and apps because they never learned how to manage simple finances.

4. That Money Comes with Mindset

We weren’t told that money is more about discipline than luck. You don’t need magic or miracles to grow, you need consistency, savings, and smart decisions.

πŸ’° What I Had to Learn Myself After School

  • Money comes from value. If you want to earn, solve a problem or offer a skill.
  • Savings are more powerful than income. You can earn 1M but stay broke if you can’t manage it.
  • Online income is real; but it takes learning, not gambling.
  • You must plan your money or it will control you.

πŸŽ“ School Gave Me a Paper; Hustle Gave Me Perspective

I’m grateful for education. It gave me reading, writing, structure. But hustling on the streets taught me how to survive, grow, and glow with purpose.

I had to teach myself how to save 5k daily. I had to Google what Forex is. I had to learn how to post online and sell chapatis, accessories, and ideas.

Everything school didn’t teach me, life forced me to learn the hard way. But now I share those lessons so others don’t have to suffer blindly.

✅ What You Can Do Now (Even If You Didn’t Learn It in School)

  • Start saving today, even if it’s just 2k a day
  • Pick one skill (Forex, digital marketing, sales, etc.) and master it
  • Read books and blogs, not just for fun, but to grow
  • Follow people who teach real money wisdom, not just show-off lifestyle

πŸ™ŒπŸ½ Final Word from Yiga Moses

School didn’t teach us everything, and that’s okay. Because now you can teach yourself. You can become a student of life, money, and purpose.

And the best part? You don’t need to be perfect to begin. You just need to be willing. Start small. Think big. Keep growing.
